Artist Spotlight, KATE MADE THAT

PoCo Inspired: Tell us a bit about yourself
KATEMADETHAT: My name is Kate Lintott-Loewen and I'm a Northwestern Ontario-born, Winnipeg-raised crafter/maker.
I make snarky greeting cards and seed bead jewellery (brick stitch and loom).
PoCo Inspired: When did you first start making jewellery and what was the first piece you ever made?
KATEMADETHAT: I definitely had a bunch of plastic beads as a wee one, but my recent foray into beading started in summer 2022 when I hurt my back and couldn't move around too well.
The first pair of brick stitch earrings I made were a pair with greens and blues that were inspired by my trip to Quetico last summer.
PoCo Inspired: What inspires your creativity when making a new piece?
KATEMADETHAT: I find vintage fabric very inspiring – the colour palettes and textures really speak to me. I also love to make things that are inspired by a friend's favourite colour, a shirt I saw someone wearing on the bus, or a bird i see through my binoculars.
PoCo Inspired: What is the single most important skill you have learned and why?
KATEMADETHAT: How to fix my mistakes (still learning on that one).
PoCo Inspired: What challenges do you face in your work?
KATEMADETHAT: I deal with chronic pain. I sometimes will get so involved in a beading piece that I won't realize that I've begun to hurt!

PoCo Inspired: What is your biggest achievement so far in your business?
KATEMADETHAT: I've conquered my imposter syndrome and participated in a few maker markets, during which I have been able to raise over $100 for Clan Mothers Healing Village.

PoCo Inspired: Where can we find you to shop online or in-person?
KATEMADETHAT: You can find me on both Facebook and Instagram at @KATEMADETHAT. I'm happy to deliver within Winnipeg!
