Business Name: David white deer

PoCo Inspired: Tell us a bit about yourself
David:  I’m an Ojibway, two spirit artist living in Ottawa, ON. I’m from Wikwemikong,ON. I am a multi disciplinary artist. My mediums are sewing and beading.

PoCo Inspired: When did you first start making jewellery and what was the first piece you ever made?
David:  I first started making jewelry at 12 years old. Ever since then I’ve been beading many art pieces all over North America. My first piece of beadwork was a beaded lanyard.

PoCo Inspired: What inspires your creativity when making a new piece?
David:  I really get inspired when going to a powwow. I can just sit there and watch all the beautiful colours dance by and then I have my next projects in my mind. Sometimes I’ll even lay down at night and some colour schemes or designs will come to mind so I’ll try to remember them for the next day.

PoCo Inspired: What is the single most important skill you have learned and why?
David:  The most important skill I have learned from beadwork is having patience for a lot of the areas in my life. That is the most important skill to my trade and in life too.

PoCo Inspired: What challenges do you face in your work?
David:  Sometimes I’ll get fixated on a certain colour scheme that it’ll take a lot to leap into a whole other colour scheme.

PoCo Inspired: What is your biggest achievement so far in your business?
David: My biggest achievement has to be creating and making a whole grass dance outfit, bead by bead. That’s a whole season of beading and it was a great challenge but I did it with ease.

PoCo Inspired: Where can we find you to shop online or in-person?
